Philips Digital Frame Review

The Philips frame comes with four interchangeable frame colors: white, red, silver and black. I consider these more like matting in a traditional frame. The outer frame remains a clear plastic. The picture size is the same as the traditional 4 X 6 frames I have on my desk. Philips offers this frame in a 9 € model and in each frame sizing they offer a wood frame and a milky glass frame. The clear plastic with the interchangeable frames is the most popular, so I reviewed it. The digital hardware is the same for each frame so consider this a review for everything but frame aesthetics. This frame also has a rechargable battery, so don’t need to have it plugged in all time like many others.

Out of the box, the set up is easy to follow. You can insert the memory card from your camera and immediate begin viewing the pictures on the card. If you spend a minutes and review the quick start guide that comes with the frame you €™ll be off and running in no time. Of course, I tried to figure out what each button does on its own and it €™s a bit confusing because you need to hit some buttons twice to adjust the frame settings. Like I said, read the manually and save yourself some time. It €™s fairly easy to load the software that loads pictures from your PC onto the frame. One glitch I found was the files where my pictures reside was outside the C:drive. I suppose this is a windows issue, but my pictures are stored in the €œmy pictures € folder of the My Documents folder. For some reason I couldn €™t find this folder in the Philips picture loading tool. I had to move the €œmy pictures € folder on to the C: drive, so I could view in the program. After that it was very easy to drag and drop the pictures on to the photo frame. I later found that moving the €œmy pictures € folder was not a good idea, because the mapping changed for my camera photo loading software. The better solution is to create a folder on the C: drive and copy and paste the pictures you want on the frame into this folder.I loaded a few pictures on to the frame and had no issues with compatibility (some of the lower priced frames have an issue here). One thing to keep in mind is how you have the frame set up. If you have the frame oriented horizontally you will want to make sure you take pictures oriented in a horizontal fashion and make sure the pictures you load on the frame are oriented horizontally. The picture quality is amazing. The photos are equal or better than the pictures when viewed on my PC. The specs say the resolution is 800 X 480 pixels. The built in memory can store up to 50 pictures depending on the file size.
